[ARCHIVED] Danville Observes Memorial Day with Events May 29

Memorial Day 2023

Annual remembrance at Oak Hill Park and Mt. Diablo beacon lighting at  Veterans Memorial Building honor fallen servicemembers.

The Town of Danville is proud to support local military veterans and their families this Memorial Day as groups organize remembrance events honoring those who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Events are scheduled at two Town facilities on Monday, May 29, and the Town Offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

The Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley will hold their 31st annual Memorial Day Remembrance at Oak Hill Park. The public event will take place at the All Wars Memorial in the park, starting at 10:30 a.m. with a concert by the Danville Community Band. Mayor Robert Storer will make welcoming remarks, followed by recognition of each branch of the U.S. military and remarks by guest speaker and Medal of Honor recipient Retired Maj. Jim Taylor. More information is available at vnvdv.org.

In the evening, the community is invited to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 75 and other local veterans organizations at the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville to light the Mount Diablo Beacon. At 8:20 p.m., the groups will gather at the flagpole in front of the building along with local officials to press a remote button that will light the aviation beacon on the Mount Diablo summit. The Veterans Memorial Building will be open May 29 before and after the ceremony, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., for visitors to view the historic photos and memorabilia inside.

Additionally, the Town Offices will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.
