[ARCHIVED] Farmers' Market Suspended Through March

Farmers’ Market Suspended Through March
Weekly event cancelled to due to coronavirus concerns

In the continuing effort to limit potential exposure of residents to the COVID-19 virus, the Town of Danville and the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association (PCFMA) have opted to suspend the weekly Danville Farmers’ Market through the end of March.

This week, both the Contra Costa Health Services and the California Department of Public Health released guidelines aimed at mitigating the spread of the coronavirus. Part of those guidelines revolve around large gatherings and the use of social distancing as a means of preventing spread of the illness.  The guidelines say that any non-essential gatherings of over 250 people should be cancelled or postponed.

Economic Development Manager Jill Bergman said that the Town discussed the guidelines with the PCFMA and they determined that suspending the farmers’ market was in the best interest of the community.

“Danville’s priority is the health and safety of our residents and our business community,” Bergman stated. “With that in mind, a temporary suspension of the farmers markets is the most prudent action.”

Because the COVID-19 outbreak remains a fluid situation, the Town and PCFMA will revisit the situation at the beginning of April to determine a further course of action.
