Acorns of the Old Oak to be displayed throughout Downtown Danville

The Town of Danville is inviting professional artists to submit their qualifications for a new public art commission, Acorns of the Old Oak. This project will introduce a series of small, three-dimensional bronze acorn sculptures to be placed at various town-owned facilities and historic sites in Downtown Danville. Inspired by the Town’s iconic Old Oak Tree as a symbol of tradition and strength, the installation will serve as a lasting tribute to Danville’s heritage and community spirit.

This marks Danville’s first permanent public art exhibition, reflecting the Town’s ongoing commitment to enriching its cultural landscape. The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend to design an acorn mold that uniquely represents Danville. The Town will cover the cost of fabricating the bronze sculptures, and installation will be handled by the Town.

The call for qualifications is open to professional artists or artist teams residing in the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Applicants must have successfully managed and completed at least one publicly funded art commission on schedule and within budget.

Submissions must include a letter of interest, a resume outlining relevant experience, a short narrative describing the proposed artwork, work samples, references, and an estimated budget. Artists must submit a minimum of one and a maximum of three images showcasing previous bronze work or sculptures. All applications must be submitted via CaFÉ, and a direct link is available at www.danville.ca.gov/arts.

An artist selection panel, including members of the Arts Advisory Board, the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission, and Town staff will review submissions and conduct finalist interviews. Selected artists must enter into a contractual agreement with the Town of Danville. Artworks must be appropriate for all audiences and free from advertising, partisan politics, or religious content.
