The Town of Danville will begin a construction-related modified traffic plan for the intersection of Diablo Road and Hartz Avenue on Monday, June 10. From 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the traffic signals will turn to flashing red signals in both directions to accommodate construction work as part of the Downtown Master Plan Catalyst Project.
The traffic pattern adjustment was scheduled to begin after local schools ended their year, to mitigate impacts. Through traffic may utilize Railroad Avenue to avoid the area, and motorists traveling along Hartz Avenue are asked to use caution and expect delays during work hours. The traffic signals will be restored to normal operation between 5 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. each night. The adjusted traffic plan to accommodate work in this area will start June 10 and is expected to conclude the following week.
Flashing red lights should be treated as stop signs, per state vehicle code, and the California Driver’s Handbook offers the following guidance:
- Pedestrians always have the right-of-way.
- The vehicle that arrives first to the intersection has the right-of-way.
- If vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle to the right goes first.
- If a vehicle is turning left and an oncoming vehicle arrives at the same time, the vehicle going straight has the right of way.
- Stop completely, and look both ways before proceeding carefully.
- Be prepared to yield to other vehicles to avoid collisions.
The Catalyst Project represents the culmination of a years-long planning effort to revitalize the Downtown experience and adapt to evolving community needs. The $4.9 million project will bring pedestrian safety enhancements and community gathering spaces to the Downtown area to attract visitors and support economic vitality. The project began in April and is expected to conclude in late fall. Community members can follow the project, provide feedback, and review progress on the Downtown Master Plan project page at www.danvilletowntalks.org.
