The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) covers Contra Costa, Alameda and San Francisco counties.  Although BART operates stations in San Mateo County and is undergoing expansion efforts in Santa Clara County, the District boundaries are limited to the three counties whose property taxes have helped support the District since its inception in 1962.

The Contra Costa Mosquito & Vector Control District is dedicated to the health and welfare of the county's more than 1 million residents covering 736 square miles. The District has been protecting public health since 1927 when residents formed the District. Funded through tax dollars, the District offers free services for mosquitoes, rats and mice, ground-nesting yellowjackets, ticks, and skunks. Its trained and certified employees work daily to reduce the risk of diseases spread by insects and animals by controlling them in a responsible, environmentally-conscious manner.

The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) is a public agency formed by Contra Costa voters in 1988 to manage the county's transportation sales tax program and to do countywide transportation planning.

CCTA is responsible for maintaining and improving the county’s transportation system by planning, funding, and delivering critical transportation infrastructure projects and programs that connect our communities, foster a strong economy, increase sustainability, and safely and efficiently get people where they need to go. CCTA is also the county's designated Congestion Management Agency (CMA), responsible for putting programs in place to keep traffic levels manageable.

County Connection was formed in 1980 as a Joint Powers Agency under the legal name The Central Contra Costa Transit Authority. Today County Connection provides fixed-route and paratransit bus service throughout the communities of Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Clayton, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Danville, San Ramon, as well as unincorporated communities in Central Contra Costa County.

County Connection operates a fleet of 121 fully accessible transit buses and 63 paratransit vehicles. Service is provided from approximately 6 AM to 9 PM on weekdays, and from approximately 9 AM to 7 PM on weekends.

Customer Service telephone operations are from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM on weekdays, and from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday – (925) 676-7500.

The Town of Danville contracts with Contra Costa County for Animal Services.  The Animal Services Department has a long history in Contra Costa County.  In 1959 Animal Control (as it was called then), consisting of five employees, was re-assigned from the Sheriff's Office authority to the County Agriculture Department. Animal Services became its own County department in 1985.

In the Town of Danville, EBRPD manages the Iron Horse Regional Trail, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness and the Sycamore Valley Open Space Preserve.

The Museum at the Depot provides a unique tribute to the rich history of California's San Ramon Valley. Volunteers and donations are always welcome.

The Museum of the San Ramon Valley was founded as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 1985. The Museum is housed in the restored 1891 Southern Pacific Depot in Danville on Railroad Avenue at Prospect.

Until he came to Tao House in Danville, California, America's greatest playwright had been a wanderer. Eugene O'Neill was born in New York City on October 16, 1888, the son of James O'Neill, an actor who, like other major stars of the time, spent his life on extended tours of the country.


Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site is only accessible by National Park Service Shuttle, including Saturdays, which are self-guided. Visitors are not permitted to drive their personal/private vehicles to the site.


Advance reservations are required for guided tours. Guided tours are offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at either 10:00 am or 2:00 pm. Saturdays are self-guided and visitors can pick up the shuttle in downtown Danville, starting at 10:00 am. Allow 2 hours for your visit, or tour.  Reservations can be made by calling 925-228-8860 x6422. Office hours are Wednesday - Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District provides all-risk fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, the Town of Danville, Diablo, the City of San Ramon, the southern area of Morgan Territory and the Tassajara Valley, all located in Contra Costa County. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles and serves a population of 186,000.

SRVFPD operates Fire Station 31 (800 San Ramon Valley Boulevard) and Fire Station 33 (1041 Diablo Road) in Danville.

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) covers an 18 square mile area, encompassing the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, and San Ramon (including the new Dougherty Valley communities in east San Ramon) as well as a small portion of the cities of Walnut Creek and Pleasanton. Assembly Bill 758 was enacted to advance regional rail planning that leads to project implementation that is fast, cost-effective, and responsive to community goals and objectives. This project concept is consistent with its primary goal to deliver an inter-regional rail connection between the San Joaquin Valley (ACE) and BART in the Tri-Valley. 

The Town of Danville is a member agency, alongside the cities of Dublin, Lathrop, Manteca, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Stockton, Tracy, counties of Alameda and San Joaquin, ACE, BART, LAVTA and the Mountain House Community Services District.
