The US National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Advisory through Saturday and a Red Flag Warning through Friday for areas including Danville. Visit their website at www.weather.gov/mtr for details, and follow the local weather office on Facebook and Instagram.
Here are some general tips for staying safe in these conditions:
• Never leave people or pets in vehicles.
• Limit outdoor activities, especially in the afternoon.
• Stay hydrated, and remember to have extra water on hand for children and pets.
• Remember that ALL fireworks are illegal in Contra Costa County.
• Use grills/smokers on gravel or paved surfaces.
• Keep water near grills and other open flame.
• Remember that hot pavement can easily burn pet paws and children's sensitive skin.
Parks & Events
East Bay Regional Parks District has closed some hills and regional parks due to extreme weather and fire danger, including Sycamore Valley Open Space Regional Preserve and Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve near Danville. Visit www.ebparks.org for details. Danville Community Parks remain open for normal operating hours.
Water features at Hap Magee Ranch Park will open at 10 a.m. this week, and the water features at Sycamore Valley Park will open at noon. All water features are open at 10 a.m. on weekends through September, and close daily at 6 p.m.
The Kiwanis-Danville 4th of July Parade will go on as planned, but parade-goers should take the heat into account in planning their visit. Keep in mind that pavement can get very hot and can easily burn the skin of people and pets. Please bring blankets or chairs to sit on, and plenty of water and sunscreen for you and your group. Some shade is available along the route. Tents and other shade structures are not permitted, and it is recommended that pets stay at home due to the expected heat of paved surfaces.
