The Town of Danville has recently completed installation of upgraded electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at four municipal parking lots Downtown. The charging stations are operated by EV Charging Solutions, Inc., and offer both Level 2 and DC Fast (Level 3) charging, depending on location.
The upgraded charging stations replace aging equipment, as the Town installed its first charging stations in 2015. The new vendor offers a lower price per kilowatt-hour (kWh), and provides maintenance and customer service for the charging stations. Current pricing is available at the EV Charging Solutions, Inc. (EVCS) website, and is currently noted as $0.39/kWh for Level 2 charging and $0.49/kWh for DC fast charging, with no access or connection fee.
Charging stations are available at the following Municipal Lots:
- Clocktower Parking Lot: One charging station with two Level 2 chargers (J-1772 connector)
- Railroad Parking Lot: One charging station with two Level 2 chargers (J-1772 connector)
- Village Theatre Parking Lot: Two charging stations, each with two Level 2 chargers (J-1772 connector)
- Danville Library/Community Center Parking Lot: One DC fast charging station (CHAdeMO and CCS.SAE connectors)
Drivers can pay "at the pump" using a QR code on each charging station, which connects to the EVCS website and an option to enter a one-time credit card payment or use Apple Pay. EVCS also offers a mobile app for Android and Apple devices for locating stations and making payments, as well as a subscription service. More information on the EVCS charging stations and availability is available at www.evcs.com.
