New Art Exhibition Explores Paper Art and Art on Paper

Paper Trails is curated by Michael Shemchuk at the Village Theatre Art Gallery.

DANVILLE, Calif. (August 7, 2023): The Town of Danville Village Theatre Art Gallery is pleased to present a new art exhibition featuring an eclectic collection of artwork made from paper featuring the work of Bay Area, East Coast and Australian artists. Paper Trails opens August 26 with a reception for the artists and the public.

Historically, paper has been used as a substrate, a surface on which to create artwork, such as drawing or painting or printmaking, but in all of its glorious versatility it can also be used as a medium itself. Cutting paper into designs and shapes, molding paper into sculptures or layering and dying paper to create collage are all instances which will be examined and on view in this showcasing of paper art, curated by Bay Area artist Michael Shemchuk.

Paper Trails opens with a reception on Saturday, August 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. The artists featured in the exhibit will be present to discuss their artwork, and all artwork in this exhibit will be available for purchase. The exhibition runs through October 20.

The reception and exhibition are open to the public and free to attend. For information on the exhibition or the Art Gallery, please visit www.danville.ca.gov/vtart or contact Visual Arts Coordinator Marija Nelson Bleier at 925-314-3460 or mnelsonbleier@danville.ca.gov
