This year's parade is scheduled from 9am - 12 pm, with the parade starting off near SRVHS and moving along Hartz Ave and San Ramon Valley Blvd to Sycamore Valley Rd.
As is the rule each year, parade goers may put out chairs along the parade route AFTER 6pm on July 3. During the afternoon on July 3, Maintenance Services staff, assisted by Danville Police, will sweep the route before 6pm and will remove any chairs placed before the deadline. These items will be stored at the Maintenance Services facility at 1000 Sherburne Hills Rd, and can be picked up on or after July 5, 2018, during business hours. When placing chairs, do not block handicap accessible ramps on the street corners or sidewalk access. Please be mindful of those who need to use the ramps. REMINDER: chalk and tape may NOT be used to reserve seating along the parade route and does NOT constitute reservation of a space. Put simply, putting down chalk or tape doesn't mean someone can't put their chair there (after 6pm).
As we have mentioned in the past, chalk and tape create a mess that is both problematic and cost prohibitive to clean up.
Town of Danville Maintenance Services Director Jed Johnson said due to federal stormwater guidelines, powerwashing the chalk marks would require both the use of recycled water and specialized equipment to keep the water out of the storm drains.
“The additional staff time needed to remove the tape placed on sidewalks and asphalt, coupled with the time and effort needed to powerwash the entire parade route, under the current guidelines, would be both challenging and cost prohibitive,” said Johnson. We encourage parade goers to put down chairs after 6pm, and cooperate with one another so that we can all see and enjoy this great annual tradition together.
