[ARCHIVED] Permits Are for Your Safety

If you are a property owner, the time will come when you will need a building permit.  Whether it’s replacing a water heater or doing a renovation, the question of why owners need a building permit always arises. The answer is simple.  The main reason property owners are required to obtain building permits is for their safety and the safety of their family and friends.

Securing a building permit before the start of your renovation allows the Town to ensure that your project is built under the current State of California building codes and that the proposed project meets the minimum state mandated health and safety standards.

Throughout my career, I have seen the aftermath of work done without permits. One of the leading causes of house fires is faulty electrical work. In some cases, homeowner’s insurance will not cover damage to a home if unpermitted work was performed on the property.

If you are planning on doing work to your home and have questions regarding whether your project will require permits, feel free to call our Permit Center 925-314-3330.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
