The community recognizes the valuable service and dedication military men and women provide our country. With the leadership of several individuals, veterans’ groups, and elected officials, the Danville Town Council has established the “Sentinels of Freedom Program – Operation Welcome Home” to formally recognize individuals from our community who have served our country upon their return from active duty or graduated military academy. Under the program, the Council honors these individuals with a Proclamation presented at a formal council meeting in appreciation of their commitment to our nation. The celebration for each returning serviceperson is a grand event. With the support of veterans’ organizations, service groups, employers, community leaders and mentors the young men and women are reintroduced to our community and to thanked for their effort and sacrifice. The Council envisions this program as a model adopted by other towns and cities across the nation, as to the manner in which we display our gratitude toward returning veterans. The Operation Welcome Home program has been enthusiastically received by the Danville community since its inception March 3, 2004. Since that time, the Town has honored many military men and women. The Danville Town Council is extremely proud to have pioneered this program as a model for other communities.
If you know of any Danville residents, who are returning military service members, please contact the Town. Information on Operation Welcome Home can also be found on the Diablo Valley Flag Brigade's webpage as well.
