Danville offers a wide variety of programs and initiatives to help you get involved in your town:
Take a look at our volunteer opportunities page - Opportunities are posted throughout the year for volunteers 12 years and up. The Town has opportunities for both individuals or groups looking for a community project.
Consider serving as an appointed representative on one of the Town's Commissions or Committees. The most important qualifications for serving are an interest and willingness to serve. Finally, for those who want to feel their voice is heard but do not have the time to make a commitment to a commission or committee, the Town Council meets the first and third Tuesday night of each month at 7:30 p.m., in the Town Meeting, 201 Front Street, Danville. Feel free to stop by the Town Meeting Hall and see your elected officials in action. Meeting agendas are posted on the Town's website, and each meeting features a 'For the Good of the Town' segment that allows residents to speak on issues not already on the agenda.
Being an involved member of the community means being informed about what's happening IN the community. In Danville, it's easy to stay informed. Meeting materials such as agendas and packets, allow you to follow the actions of your elected officials, know what's coming up at meetings and give staff reports and background on issues facing the Town.
For a more newspaper style of information, the Living Locally Quarterly Newsletter provides articles on a wide variety of topics in Danville. The community's printed newsletter arrives in mailboxes each quarter and contains current news and events, as well as timely articles about such things as emergency preparedness, crime prevention and green living.
The Town's website offers eNews, an e-mail notification service that provides updates about Town news, including project updates, events, and public safety alerts. In addition, the Town has taken to using social media as a means of reaching out to the community with timely information, videos and pictures. The Town provides frequent updates on its Nextdoor and Facebook feeds, sends roadway or safety alerts through either its Twitter or Nixle feed, bulletins about jobs and human resources issues on LinkedIn, and broadcasts live from events and programs on Facebook and hosts the videos on its Youtube channel.
The Recreation Services department publishes the Activity Guide, a quarterly full color brochure with a listing of all the recreation programs in our community. In addition, the Silver Streak, a publication filled with information for Danville's seniors, is also published 6 times per year.
